Do you have high expectations when it comes to the reconditioning of your engine's connecting rods? Count on Effingham Regrinding Inc to meet them! With over 100 years of combined experience, our in-house team has the skills and equipment to get the job done right.
The connecting rod is part of the motion of an engine, which makes reconditioning the rod a critical part of the engine rebuilding process.
After checking for cracks and then cleaning and straightening the rod, we machine the parting faces of the rod, making the bearing end smaller. New rods bolts are installed and then torqued to the recommended specifications.
We remove material from the rod using the Sunnen 1810 honing machine, which is good for the removal of amounts less than ten thousandths in thickness. This machine uses an abrasive stone to remove metal and allows us to finish the rod to better-than-factory specifications maintaining one-tenth of a thousandth. We're able to use this effective process because we are doing each rod individually instead of by means of mass production.
We use our Van Norman rod lathe for amounts more than ten thousandths, babbitt bearings, or where precise center-to center-distance is a must.
The Van Norman rod lathe maintains the same strict sizes we adhere to the exact tolerances of the required piece. This piece of equipment can handle up to a 20-inch connecting rod and can machine both the thrust surfaces of the rod and the wrist pin end of the connecting rod.
